The biggest problem in the UK is the fact that wealth is distributed out of doable proportion between rich and poor (mathematically, you can see it in the poor – rich ratio).
Overly capitalist measures shifted the wealth towards the rich. You only have a certain amount of wealth in a country. You could call it “conservation of wealth” principle at a given time. Countries can and have increased wealth over time but the extra wealth was disproportionally shifted towards the rich and it is now at breaking point for the poor.
Sunak can shift money around as much as he wants but with the current ‘wealth distribution system’ (which is mostly taxes), there is simply not enough wealth = money there for the lower 30% of the population.
It did not even work before Corona and the Ukraine war (20% of population was in relative poverty already then) and it has now become unattainable.
If the state borrows money, it will also not really work since the money has to be paid back, which will again be a disproportional burden for the poor.
It is simple, the ‘maths’ only works out if you take some money from the rich (either individuals or corporations) and distribute it amongst the poor. You need an “Egalitarian Capitalism”.
If the top 1% have as much wealth as 70% of the population then something is wrong in a Western democracy.
The whole system has become inexcusable from a humanistic point of view. Prime example: fuel corporations file huge profits and their executives and shareholders make literally hundreds of £millions in share options and dividends, while the poor must pay for these profits by freezing at home over winter.
